Libraries and archives are not neutral sources that appear out of nowhere: each collection or knowledge has its own history and was shaped by people with their own goals, biases, and constraints. Rather than pretending to be a neutral source of absolute knowledge, we hope this section will emphasize our own library's mission and limitations. We also encourage users to consider the history and positionality of any source of knowledge they encounter, from the smallest note to the largest library. Consider who made the collection, who the collection was made for, and under what conditions the collection was put together.
