Finding and using financial data at Princeton University

Guide to major sources of financial data available to Princeton University researchers for academic research.
Lipper Hedge Fund Database (TASS) Quantitative performance data on over 7,500 actively reporting Hedge funds and Funds of Hedge Funds.  Performance data on over 11,000 graveyard funds that have liquidated or stopped reporting.  Available through WRDS. Requires user to validate through password.  1990+
Preqin* Major source for private equity data.  Earliest data tends to be around 1980.  Includes data on hedge funds in the native interface.  
Morningstar Direct* Includes international open-ended and closed-end mutual funds; hedge funds, exchange traded funds, UK pension funds, variable annuities, variable life, and insurance product funds. Includes CISDM data.  

 

Available on the workstations located near Firestone A-13-J. Requires passwords and codes. 1990+
Bloomberg* Has both index level and specific hedge fund data. (Type HFND and hit GO).Downloading is extremely limited. Available on the workstations located near Firestone A-13-J, Robertson 046, Andlinger 211A, Master of Finance lounge in JRR, and Sherrerd lower level
Datastream International* Has index level data on hedge funds.  (Included in Stock Indices). Available on the workstations located near Firestone A-13-J and Stokes Library. Part of Refinitiv Workspace.
