Information about equipment available in the PUL Makerspace, how to get started, software to use, and links for project ideas.

Printer & Paper Types


  • Printer method: inkjet
  • Max resolution: 2400 x 1200 dpi
  • Printable width: 8" - 24"
  • Media thickness: 0” - 0.03” (0.07 mm - 0.8 mm)
  • Max. print resolution: 2400 x 1200dpi 
  • Ink type: 5-color pigment-based ink

We regularly supply the following paper in the Makerspace:

  • 24" wide matte coated 170gsm
  • 24" wide adhesive matte vinyl

You may bring your own paper if approved ahead of time by the Makerspace manager, Ariel Ackerly (arielackerly@princeton.edu).

Access and Use

***Notice: Printing beyond 24" in width is no longer supported. To print larger posters, we recommend using Princeton's Print & Mail Services.***

Getting Started

1. Make a reservation to use the large format printer here.

Reservations are for printing time only.

One person per reservation.

2. Before you arrive, prepare your file:

Proofread. We recommend printing on smaller letter-sized paper to assist in proofing your design.

Check your dimensions. Ensure that the dimensions of your file are set to the actual size you would like to print.

Save as the correct file type. Export your file as a PDF or an Adobe Illustrator (.AI) file.

Need help? If you need assistance preparing your file for printing, please come in prior to your reservation. Reservations are for printing time only.

4. Bring your file with you at the time of your reservation. Save your project onto a USB flash drive or email it to yourself.

5. Arrive on time and check in with Makerspace staff at the time of your reservation. Staff will assist when you arrive.

Large Format Printer Guidelines

The poster printer is available by reservation only. Walk-ins may be turned away if the printer is reserved by other patrons.

Prints are limited to two 24" x 36" posters per month (every 30 days).

The printer is not available for mass production of promotional posters. Please use Princeton's University Print & Mail Service for mass production of quality promotional posters.

Reservations are for printing time only. If you need to design your file or need assistance preparing it for printing, please come in prior to your reservation. 

Users must abide by copyright and trademark laws, as well as University, State, and Federal rules/laws.

The large format printer is free to Princeton University students, faculty, and staff.
