Hello! We are a new professional group co-led by Charissa Jefferson, Labor Economics Librarian, Princeton University Library and Whitney Kramer, ILR Research and Data Librarian at Cornell University for librarians in the northeast who work with economic data. We acknowledge that economic data has distinct information challenges that differ from allied subjects and the interdisciplinarity of social sciences. We are eager to connect with others in the field.
North Eastern Economic Data Librarians & Specialists (NEEDLS) “in the Stacks” is a regional network for economics subject librarians, and others who work with economic data as part of their role, to share professional interests, best practices and new ideas in economic data for research, instruction, and acquisition.
We strive to develop camaraderie through quarterly (at-minimum) informal virtual discussions. Because we are all based in a similar geographic area, we aim for a biennial (at-minimum) formal meeting ideally hosted on-site at a group member’s home institution. We also maintain a listserv for ad hoc discussions, announcements, and other professionally relevant communication in between meetings.
Membership is free and open to any professional librarian in the northeastern United States.
Since September of 2022, we meet monthly during fall and spring terms. Our membership has grown to represent over 25 institutions! Our first in-person meeting will be November 19, 2024, hosted by Princeton University Libraries. All members are invited to join us!
