ICPSR is an international consortium of more than 750 academic institutions and research organizations. It maintains a data archive of more than 250,000 files of research in the social and behavioral sciences and hosts 21 specialized collections of data in education, aging, criminal justice, substance abuse, terrorism, and other fields.

Allows user to visually analyze and understand the demography of the United States through the use of interactive maps and data reports. Covers the censuses from 1790+ along with the American Community Surveys and some religion data.

PUMS USA collects, preserves and harmonizes U.S. census microdata and provides easy access to this data with enhanced documentation. Data includes decennial censuses from 1790 to 2010 and American Community Surveys (ACS) from 2000 to the present.

The Census Bureau releases the official income and poverty report each year in September. Also released at this time is the Supplemental Poverty Measure (SPM). Both are based on the Annual Social and Economic Supplement to the Current Population Survey (CPS ASEC) from the previous calendar year. Additional poverty estimates from the American Community Survey (ACS), Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP), Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates Program (SAIPE), and Historical Censuses are released on varying timeframes.

The SPM Research files are built using the public use version of the CPS ASEC while the reports use the internal CPS ASEC file.

The New York City Longitudinal Survey of Wellbeing (NYC-LSW) also known as the Poverty Tracker (PT) is a study of disadvantage in New York City. Launched in 2012, the Poverty Tracker surveys a representative sample of New Yorkers every three months collecting data on the dynamics of poverty and other forms of disadvantage. The Poverty Tracker covers two distinct panels.

Nearly 9 million Americans live in extreme-poverty neighborhoods, places that also tend to be racially segregated and dangerous. Yet, the effects on the well-being of residents of moving out of such communities into less distressed areas remain uncertain. Moving to Opportunity (MTO) is a randomized housing experiment administered by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development that gave low-income families living in high-poverty areas in five cities the chance to move to lower-poverty areas.

Follows a cohort of nearly 5,000 children born in large U.S. cities between 1998 and 2000 (roughly 3/4 of whom were born to unmarried parents). Refers to unmarried parents and their children as fragile families to underscore that they are families and that they are at greater risk of breaking up and living in poverty than more traditional families.
