BioRender

BioRender is a web application that can be used to create scientific figures, diagrams, and illustrations from a scientifically accurate image library.

NOTICE

Update: Princeton University Library, in partnership with Molecular Biology, Psychology, Princeton Neuroscience Institute, and the Lewis Siegler Institute, will retain an institutional license with BioRender.

There will be no changes to the user accounts.

What is BioRender?

BioRender is a web application that can be used to create scientific figures, diagrams, and illustrations from a scientifically accurate image library.


BioRender also offers an intuitive poster builder.

*Reminder: The PUL Makerspace has large format printers available for free poster printing!

Getting Started

1. Go to https://app.biorender.com/portal/princeton

2. Create an account with your Princeton email address.

Benefits for Princeton Affiliates

  • Unlimited storage of figures
  • Permission to publish figures in journals (credit the image with "created with BioRender" and download your license - instructions below)
  • Ability to request custom icons

Publication License

In order to publish a figure created in BioRender, you will need to export a license to publish with the exported image.

To export the license, export the image along with a copy of the license. You will need this to prove that you have permission to publish.

 

There are 2 methods to obtaining your publication license:

  1. From the Export menu

  2. From the File menu

 

From the Export menu

  1. Open your desired figure

  2. Click Export in the top-right corner

  3. Select the I would like a publication license with this export box

  4. Click Export

  5. Additional steps may appear, depending on your illustration type

From the File menu

  1. Open your desired figure

  2. Click File in the File menu

  3. Select the Download Publication License option

  4. Additional steps may appear, depending on your illustration type
