Description: All are welcome to attend this introductory-level workshop about conducting sentiment analysis in R. We will be analyzing the sentiment of published news articles over time. During this hands-on workshop attendees will learn the basics of detecting affective emotions in text, as well as relevant R packages and code to run the analysis on their own news data sources.

Description: Tableau is a data visualization tool that helps users create charts, graphs, maps and dashboards for visualizing and analyzing data. It provides a platform for understanding data, and for sharing insight discovered through the data with others.

This 90-minutes workshop offers a gentle introduction to data visualization with Tableau. Attendees will learn how to connect to and edit data sources; use the Tableau workspace to create data visualizations; build a range of chart types; create quick calculations; and build an interactive dashboard to present data insight. No prior programming knowledge is needed. Space is limited, please sign up early to reserve a spot.

Description: This workshop offers an overview of qualitative research methods. It discusses the difference between qualitative and quantitative research, the different types of qualitative research (including ethnography, interviews, and archival research), and techniques for data collection and analysis. Specifically, it goes over methods and techniques for: operationalizing concepts of interest, sample selection, recruitment, gaining entree to field sites, interviewing participants, and transcribing and coding data. Students who attend the workshop will have the opportunity to practice some of these techniques in the session and ask methodological questions about their own research projects.

Description: Are you new to data analysis and/or Stata? Are you interested in using Stata for your research project? During this hands-on workshop will discuss data preparation (cleaning, merging, recoding, etc.), descriptive statistics, introduction to data visualization, and introduction to linear regression. No previous knowledge of data analysis and/or Stata is required.

Description: In this introduction to GIS workshop, you will use ArcGIS Pro software to explore geographic data, tables and create maps. This workshop will also show how to use the GIS Portal site that Princeton University Library hosts to add geographic data downloaded over the internet, and analyze data and create maps and then share them with the public. No previous GIS experience is needed to take this workshop.
