Research as Inquiry

The Concept

When engaging in scientific writing it is important to use citations to allow the readers to refer back to an original work, provide background for your own work, or to acknowledge the contributions of other researchers in the field.  When making a claim about a topic that is not your original work it is important to cite a source to support your claim. This is an indication that you are engaged in the research process to inform and develop your own ideas.
