For about a decade (1982-1993) the New Jersey Index provided subject and, later, author access to the content of magazines published in New Jersey that were indexed nowhere else as well as articles about New Jersey in broader interest publications and New Jersey government periodicals.

New Jersey State Archives Holdings

  • The State Archives has acquired, through in-house production and donation, over 8,000 master negative reels of nearly 600 New Jersey newspapers on microfilm from the 19th century through the first quarter of the 20th century.
  • Additional newspapers held by the New Jersey State Archives
  • The “Daily True American” from 1849-1908 is held by the NJ State Archives; they have a card index of the vital records information that it contains, such as marriages and deaths. The State Library has some bound volumes of the True American from 1802-1829.
