Romanization Tables: Transliteration Schemes for Non-Roman Scripts
While the library's catalog does support Hebrew characters, historically some works were cataloged in Roman script transliteration rather than in Hebrew. Princeton University Library uses American Library Association and Library of Congress (ALA-LC) approved Romanization Tables for transliterations of Hebrew, Judeo-Arabic, Ladino, Judeo-Persian,* and Yiddish languages into Roman script. If you are having trouble locating works in the library catalog, try searching in transliteration, using the correct transliteration according to the ALA-LC approved Romanization Tables linked below.
- Persian*Judeo-Persian transliteration into Roman script is not yet standardized by ALA-LC, but it is currently being discussed. Until an ALA-LC approved Romanization Table is created, searchers should use the ALA-LC Persian Romanization Table or consult library staff.
- Judeo-Persian-DRAFT (Final is Forthcoming)*Judeo-Persian transliteration into Roman script is not yet officially standardized by ALA-LC, but it is currently being discussed.
