Locating & Obtaining Elusive Sources
If you have information about a source but cannot find it at Princeton, here are the three things to try:
-
Confer with a librarian: in person at the reference desk in the Trustee Reading Room in Firestone, via e-mail, or via our chat service. Links to e-mail and chat are on the Library home page. Be sure to provide all the details you have about the item.
-
For a book, use the Borrow Direct service. There is a link to it on the Library home page and at the top of every Main Catalog screen. The Patron ID for logging on is the 14-digit barcode number on the back of your TigerCard. It typically takes between three and four weekdays for the book to arrive; you will be notified immediately via e-mail.
- For any type of material (for instance, a specific periodical article, video, newspaper that exists only on microfilm, Ph.D. dissertation from another institution, or book not available from any or our six Borrow Direct partners): use the Interlibrary Loan service. The link is on the Library home page and at the top of every Main Catalog screen, labeled ILL/Document Delivery. The first time you use this service you will need to register. Contact a reference librarian if you have any questions about how to complete the request form. The turnaround time for an ILL request can range from hours to a week or two; we will communicate with you via e-mail to let you know when the item is available.
